Do you find yourself constantly counting down the seconds until the weekend is here, only to realize that your weekends just come and go without you getting anything done? If so, you're not alone. Many people feel burned out and overwhelmed and seek ways to use their free time in more satisfying and fulfilling ways.
For years, our Sundays were typically spent on the couch, binge-watching the latest show on Netflix, ordering in, and generally "vegging out." However, as responsibilities at work and in life began to mount, we realized that spending Sundays shut in the house all day could have been more fulfilling.
Unfortunately, in theory, what should have felt relaxing wasn't that relaxing in practice.
Weekends filled with junk food and insufficient sleep left us feeling sluggish when Monday rolled around. On top of that, dealing with the pile of dishes stacked up in the kitchen or catching up on the grocery shopping that didn't get done during a hectic workweek only added to our stress.

It became apparent that we needed to change our routine. There had to be a better way to use our free time to engage in activities that would help us recharge and feel good about ourselves—setting aside time to do things that were helping us meet our health and larger life goals.
When we started dedicating our Sundays to taking care of ourselves and making space to plan the week ahead, we noticed that our stress levels began to drop dramatically, and we had more energy and enthusiasm to work out and take on the other hobbies that we loved during the week as well.
What Is A Self-Care Sunday?
Self-care Sunday is about setting aside one day a week to dedicate time to do things for yourself that you usually don't get (or make) the time for.
It's all about caring for yourself at your own pace, away from the obligations of a schedule. Making self-care a part of your weekly routine is an excellent way to ensure self-care stays a priority and that you consistently keep up with your self-care goals.
Setting aside time on Sunday is easy to remember and doable for most people's schedules. But, of course, you can set aside a self-care day any day of the week that is most convenient for you.
It can be as brief as a 10-minute meditation or having your morning coffee while watching the sunrise, or it can be as involved as taking a whole day to get away and only do the things you love.
Why Is Setting Aside Time For Self-Care Important?
We all need to decompress regularly to prioritize our physical, mental, and emotional health. Self-care activities help to boost your mood and reduce burnout after a long week.

Planning Your Sunday Self-Care Routine Will Help You Stay On Track With Your Self-Care Goals
It can be easy to tell yourself that you'll set aside Sundays for self-care, but if you don't have an action plan, you'll likely fall back on old habits.
To ensure you stay on track, having a well-thought-out plan and scheduling time into your calendar will help you get excited about your self-care Sunday. As a result, you'll be more likely to prioritize your needs and goals.
That being said, recognize that life is always changing, so one week's perfect self-care Sunday may be completely different than another week, and that is OK.
Set Aside Time Just For You
Block time on your calendar just for "you-time."
Try to reschedule existing obligations. Your Sunday self-care routine should be about reducing stress and setting aside time to focus on yourself. Avoiding unnecessary commitments that don't excite you will allow you to dive in and enjoy your Sunday self-care activities.
Take Stock Of What Makes You Feel Good
Everyone's self-care Sunday is going to look a bit different. The beauty of self-care Sundays is you can do whatever makes you feel good.
For some, it could look like enjoying a bubble bath in silence. In contrast, others may want to flip on their favorite music as loud as possible and do a massive clean throughout the house, go to their favorite fitness class to sweat and get their endorphins going, or take a long walk to listen to their favorite podcast in peace.
Often people think that self-care only involves beauty rituals, which we love! But don't limit yourself. Your perfect self-care Sunday might be a trip to the farmer's market and making a big Sunday meal with the freshest produce.
Keeping a list or creating a vision board of the activities that inspire you and that help bring calm and peace of mind to your life is an excellent way to keep your self-care routine fresh and exciting. Focus on the details. If you enjoy evening tea, choose your favorite teacup, splurge on a unique loose-leaf tea, light a candle, and put on some music.
The most important part of Sunday self-care is to create mindful moments that help you destress. Then, try out different self-care rituals to find the ones you like best. If meditation or yoga isn't your thing, don't force it!
Don't Over Schedule Your Self-Care Sunday!
While there are a lot of activities you may want to take on and things you want to accomplish, trying to schedule too much into a single day will likely defeat the purpose. Listen to your body and give your mind time and space to reset. There are plenty of Sundays in the year, so slowly incorporate new self-care activities into your routine.
